Mesothelioma is a type of cancer affecting the cells of mesothelial lining in the chest and abdomen. Mesothelioma is rare, though it appears to be on the rise. Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed each year in the United States alone. Symptoms for both types of mesothelioma are not specific only to this disease, and often go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for a significant amount of time. Difficulty breathing, abdominal and chest pain, and fever can all be attributed to other causes, so this cancer has time to advance fair before diagnosis usually occurs. Due to the difficulty in diagnosis of mesothelioma, survival time after diagnosis is estimated at about a year.

I know you have to have a company in hazmat suits come out and they seal the area off and work with a machine that draws in the air and fibers, but isn’t there still some residue in the air and on things that can be dangerous? I’m worried I should sell the house and not live here myself during or after the renovation. I’m worried about mesothelioma… lung cancer from inhaling bits of asbestos. So far, I’ve just not touched the asbestos… hoping not stirring it up would be safer, but now I have problems with my boiler and will have to have it replaced, which means dealing with the asbestos problem. sigh.

a relative of mines moved to Lanzarote almost 3 years ago. He has recently been diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma, a quite rare type of cancer. He now wishes to come home, but almost no airlines will allow him on the flight with oxygen. Does anyone know of anywhere that can help? From a charity to a major airline, he will do anything to get home, as the average time for survival of this type of cancer is 9 months. He has had this for 8 months, so there is a certain sense of urgency about this.

Hello, These symptoms started about 2 or 3 months ago, after walking for several miles.
I am 64, and have shortness of breath that comes on once or twice a day, as well as coughing up flem. I’ve been to the heart doctor and he says my heart is fine. Nothing has showed up on my chest x rays.
I have been exposed to asbestus in my work, years ago. I have an appointment with a lung doctor in a couple of weeks.
Anyone have any ideas?
Asbestosis and mesothelioma, come to mind, but I was told those should have shown up on the chest x ray from my family doctor.

My dad suffers from a malignant type cancer (mesothelioma), and he is on chemotherapy. It seems that everyday he becomes more angry and more agressive towards everybody. Is this due to his cancer or chemo? My mom and I are deeply saddened by his condition, but everyday he screams and yells at us for no reason. Is there something else that we can do to help him? I feel even more sorry for my mom because she is the one who receives the most insults by my dad. I see her cry everyday because of that. What can we do?

So, there is a member of my family who is very sick. He has Mesothelioma and can not take medicine to treat it (long story). He is constantly in pain and is suffering. He mentioned to my great grandmother a couple days ago… “I want god to take me, but he obviously doesn’t want me…I’m still here” The thing is, my family is really religious (aside from my mother, father, and I) And his family is REALLY religious.
So, do you think it is wrong that he is asking “god” to take him, with him being a hard core Christian? Is it wrong that he wishes to be dead and leave his family behind? Would he like, go to “hell” or somthing for wishing that on himself? What is your personal view on this? I would like anyone of any religion to answer, I want to see what your personal belief and oppinion is..

A terminal cancer sufferer stands to cash in and collect another £5,000 in winnings today, after betting he would stay alive. Mr Matthews, from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, was diagnosed with mesothelioma - a cancer linked to asbestos - in April 2006.
Keen to defy doctors’ predictions that he would not see in 2007, he placed a £100 stake with odds of 50/1 with bookmakers William Hill that he would remain alive until June 1, 2008. This won him £5,000.
He also made a further bet of the same amount and odds that he would survive until June 1 this year, which is set to net him another £5,000 today.And he has a third and final wager of £100 at 100/1 that he will survive until June 1, 2010, which would see him gain £10,000.
Mr Matthews, a widower, said: “I think I’m the first person in the world to bet on my own life.”
He added that the longest doctors at Harefield Hospital in Middlesex had heard of anyone surviving mesothelioma after diagnosis was 25 months.”I reached 26 months a year ago and on June 1 this year I will have reached 38 months,” he said. “When I was diagnosed I was told mesothelioma was a death sentence.
Mr Matthews said he plans to give most of his winnings away to charities, including the cancer charity Macmillan.”I know I’m going to die eventually and I have no real need for money, so it will mostly go to worthy causes,” he said.

My mom died of mesothelioma, which is the asbestos cancer, last year. We have no idea where she was exosed so I am trying to learn as much as I can about the places she lived. She lived at Carswell in the fifties. I would like to know if anybody knows anything about Carswell, or the area surrounding it. If there are any factories around that area, or how far away it is from the Summit and 5th streets (because 19 mesothelioma cases were diagnosed in that area).

I’ve grown very concerned that autism will prove to be like mesothelioma, i.e., that we will ultimately discover that autism is directly caused by some common substance (like a flame retardent or insecticide), just like mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos. Get rid of asbestos and mesothelioma goes away. Get rid of XYZ substance and autism goes away.
I’m concerned that we as human beings are leaving a natural wilderness (as we cultivate civilization) only to create a new one.
